DIY cacao, coffee and cinnamon body scrub.

Do you find your skin becoming dry, flaky and lustreless now that it’s getting colder outside? You are not alone!

Extreme temperatures, wind and heating can be a big factor in causing these skin issues. Let’s discuss a few simple things you can do in your regular routine to keep your skin soft, smooth and supple during the winter months.

DRY BODY BRUSHING

Dry body brushing can help stimulate circulation to break up underlying blockages. The brushing removes layers of dead skin cells, improving uneven skin tone and giving you an overall smoother complexion.

We recommend dry brushing daily before showering, starting at your feet, brushing upwards in long, soft, smooth strokes. When choosing a brush, choose one with soft natural fibres and a long handle for easy access to lower limbs and back.

BODY SCRUBS

Like dry body brushing, body scrubs improve the circulatory and lymphatic system.

They help remove dead skin cells for a healthier skin tone and texture. Using a body scrub before tanning helps you avoid a blotchy and uneven application.

Try body scrubs once a week after dry body brushing. Simply dampen your skin and scrub in light circular movements all over the body, focusing on areas of dryness.

It is normal for the skin to be slightly pink and have a tingling sensation after doing this because of the increased circulation.

Using a scrub with coconut oil will leave a light film on the skin which will hydrate and nourish.

DIY CACAO, COFFEE AND CINNAMON BODY SCRUB

Ingredients
½ cup coconut oil
½ cup ground coffee
½ cup raw sugar
1 ½ tbsp cacao powder
1 ½ tbsp cinnamon powder

Method
1. Gently melt coconut oil.

2. Once cool, stir in coffee, cinnamon, cacao powder and sugar.

3. Mix well and store in mason jars until ready to use.

Note: The coconut oil becomes solid in lower temperatures so pop into a bowl of hot water to soften before use.

HYDRATION

Last but not least: Drink plenty of water!

This can be hard to do in cold weather, but water is very important for overall health.

Water aids digestion, circulation, absorption, excretion of waste and toxins and helps keep skin soft and supple.

If your skin is lacking hydration it can result in dry, flaky and tight skin showing signs of premature ageing.

Follow a basic guide of eight glasses of water per day and you should be okay.

Try these tips and you should have beautiful, soft skin no matter the weather.
