Those who love vegetables but don’t always know the best ways to dish them up may enjoy Doreen Virtue and Jenny Ross’ new book Veggie Mama.
This is the second plant-based book the pair has teamed up to create and includes a range of vegan recipes for the whole family. Jenny is a qualified chef who drew on her own experiences of raising a family on a vegan diet when creating the book.
“These are all tried and true family favourites in our household,” she said.
“This book took several months to create because there is so much information to share.
“We wanted to provide a real-life down to earth book anyone can use but there can be so many aspects to cover when it comes to healthful food for a growing family.”
The book features tips to make adapting to a vegan lifestyle easier and more accessible for everyone, no matter their background.
“Whether you want to completely shift your family’s dietary lifestyle or you just want to begin adding in more healthful foods, this book can support your path,” Jenny said.
“Vegetables are the building blocks of life — they contain essential and vital minerals and other macronutrients that feed your body optimally.
“Growing families need to feel encouraged and be supported with delicious recipes to share the love of eating clean and eating more plant-based foods together.”
When asked what her favourite recipe was, Jenny said it was hard to pick just one.
“As a chef I enjoy a huge variety of foods,” she said.
“But these are our families’ recipes and I have to say that with my kids we love to prepare and play in the kitchen together.
“We usually make the simple foods throughout the week as a group — things like the watermelon pizza and citrus parfaits are easy for us all to enjoy.”
Jenny said the book was a guide for parents, grandparents and caregivers about feeding the young people in their lives healthy and nutritious food.
“The information it contains is well researched but, more importantly, written from our unique points of view, sharing our experiences in our own families’ lifestyles — we’ve learnt what works,” she said.
