Experts suggest that adults need between seven and nine hours sleep each night, with our sleep hygiene playing a vital role in our physical health and wellbeing. However, new research has revealed that only five per cent of Australians are sleeping soundly every night.

The research carried out by health and wellbeing heavyweight nourishedlife.com.au found that sleep deprivation is significantly impacting our day-to-day lives, which is not only affecting our general wellbeing and relationships but also our overall safety.

An overwhelming 65 per cent of people in Australia are struggling with sleep deprivation or disturbed sleep. The research revealed that 35 per cent suffer from memory loss and, worryingly, one in five feel too unsafe to drive.

“Sleep is so important to our overall health and wellbeing. Having a good night’s sleep gives our body the time to heal and repair,” Nourished Life naturopath Melanie Ruckley said.
