We are blessed with a number of great markets and festivals in our local community, with a number of talented people showcasing their skills and making an honest buck.
It recently came to my attention that although many enjoy spending their weekend mornings perusing people’s culinary adventures and quirky creations, there are others who would prefer to give this activity a miss.
Upon learning this, I started to consider the notion of trash versus treasure and how markets seem to be one of the last places people can showcase their ‘stuff’ in any form. Markets are really a mix of gallery and shop!
I love nothing more than discovering artists, who have made their passion or hobby a career. I also admire those who bring their collections of bric-a-brac or old steel wares along for others to see.
There is also something about heading out to a market and enjoying a hot coffee as you take a stroll.
Maybe it’s a shared admiration between stall holders and market-goers for braving the cold breeze and numerous puddles lining the paths.
On the other hand, I can understand that some people don’t enjoy a wander and feel that stalls can lack in variety.
I guess we can all appreciate the effort these marketeers go to; whether that be walking past and stopping at the stalls or spending the morning in bed.
