Bye Bye winter

It’s coming! Each morning it is a little less cold. Each day it feels like it is easier to get out and get things done. It’s about this time that we start to think about our summer body. What will be on show when the layers of clothes that we hide in through the winter months come off ? The next thought is one of panic. What should I do? Have I left things too late? I need a plan that works fast. Super-fast!

Unfortunately, here comes mistake number one. Heading off to Dr Google to find the answers will cause us more pain then good. When you type and hit enter for any word relating to fat loss or weight loss you get millions if not billions of hits.

Then the search is on for the one that matches exactly what we want it to say. The one that seems easiest but promises lightning-fast results. The one that requires the least amount of work. The one that keeps us close to our normal routine and allows us to do close to what we are doing right this minute each day but miraculously delivers the results we want. So, what’s the problem here?

The problem is when we start to search we are looking for the answers we want to see not what we really need. If we knew what it was we needed we wouldn’t be in the position we are in. So, what’s the solution?

The solution is to not match what you do to the different seasons throughout the year, but to go after your goals. What you do in summer to work towards your goals should be the same things you also do in winter, spring and autumn.

I know having a search engine at the tip of your fingers can be tempting, but if you sit down and really think about it, the chances are that very search engine played a big part in getting you to the place you are trying to break free of.

SO, HERE’S HOW TO BREAK FREE FROM THE VICIOUS YEARLY CYCLE.

Step 1: Ask for help. This is often something many people don’t want to do, but having someone from the outside looking at your journey and where you wish to go is priceless and will remove the stress and frustration.

Step 2: Education is key. When we look at why most people are on the cycle of failing to make it to their health and fitness goals year in year out, it is often a case of not understanding what they are really trying to achieve.

Step 3: Implement what you learn. This is just as, if not even more, important than education because there is no point in learning if you don’t implement what you learn.

When you ask for help, it shows a willingness to learn, which we should strive for throughout our entire life. It is okay to always be a student. I know I plan to be for the rest of my life.

As you increase your understanding through education, then and only then can you start to develop the correct habits that will take you to the place you wish to get to and be able to stay there.

Lastly, the only way we develop those right habits are through implementing them day after day, month after month, year after year.

This year, this very moment, if you feel stuck on the cycle of always getting yourself in shape and towards your goals the moment the colder weather starts to clear, know you can break that cycle. Know you can say goodbye to it forever if you choose.

Also know it is okay to ask for help so you can learn, grow and implement a way to achieve any goal you wish.
